Schwarzenegger Veto Laws

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, will probably not give assent to the bill to celebrate the day of Harvey Milk, a pioneer in the struggle for gay civil rights in the state of California.

The proposal has already managed to jump from the state capitol to the Senate, now expected to be signed this weekend. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, there are about 700 proposals in Governor Schwarzenegger’s desk to be signed before midnight on Sunday, including some related to education, insurance and use of weapons.

But the governor has threatened to veto any legislation if lawmakers fail to reach an agreement on the state water system for this weekend.

Milk activist was murdered in 1978. He had been elected by the bureau of Supervisors of San Francisco in 1977. During his eleven months in that position, supported the proposals on gay rights and defended a particular allowing visibility of openly gay teachers and teachers.

About 40,000 Californians signed a petition on Memorial Day in honor of Milk and despite not being an official date yet, many schools, on the date of his death, recall the actions of a social activist.

Before making the film “My name is Harvey Milk, Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill identical to the one now proposed, arguing that the activist was not sufficiently well known.
