Vaga shade of winter
I must confess that I have not read the novel where he allegedly relied in the making this movie protagonists whose trio formed a very young Robert Downey Jr., Andrew McCarthy, Jami Gertz, but the fact is, I like very much the film version. Although I saw a few years after its debut, no doubt brings me back to the ’80s pure and hard, like the Bangles version that made the duet a subject of Simon & Garfunkel and, for me, surpasses the original . Additionally, it contains both the atmosphere Less than zero, which seems written on purpose.
As I read here and there Less than zero (the novel) was devoted to describing, in a dispassionate monotone, about young characters, beautiful and wealthy without much expectation of getting high and having sex every way possible, gradually falling into a spiral of violence and degradation. Sour and bitter reflection of the materialism of American culture of the eighties, the book became an unexpected critical and popular success that projected his young author Bret Easton Ellis (then under 21 years) as a spokesman for his generation (which Douglas Coupland later christened as Generation X) and one of the greatest writers of the time hard and bony.
Hollywood cast her eyes on the phenomenon by buying the rights Ellis Less than zero to make a ridiculous film version directed by Marek Kanievska would turn sour in a moral fable novel drugs. An adaptation does not really bother to Ellis as only he shared with his book title and the names of the characters. At that time, Ellis had just published his second novel, Laws of Attraction (1987), which should confirm that they are authentic writer or passing phenomenon.
Ellis came to me through American Psycho and while there is a kind of aura that surrounds this damn book then caused the majority of readers thought that Ellis was a psychopath in power. I got tired so linear that can be its particular way to describe all. The fact (perhaps “master” too many) that whilst talking to the new work of Genesis, we describe how Patrick Bateman, the protagonist, a girl descuatiza, for example. Such description makes of cars, lotions, clothing, fashion many names of restaurants, etc. Okay, everything is for us to step into the yuppie world of the protagonist, but to be honest, I repeat, get bored more than to shock with its development psychopath.
And while there is an author who qualifies only one of his books, I must say that after reading American Psycho, Little desire left me to read to Ellis again. I think Less than zero is difficult to achieve, but are also Glamorama, Informers (which has recently been adapted to the cinema with lukewarm results despite having a lot more than acceptable cast that includes Billy Bob Thornton, Mickey Rourke, Rhys Ifans, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder and Amber Heard) and The Lunar Park certainly have read more bad reviews than good due to mixing reality with fantasy that makes the “reveal” a sort of biography itself smoked Ellis.
The latest news on Ellis is: As it is writing what would be the continuation of Less than zero but with the characters and grown up. And it seems that you have in mind to film. But the comments I’ve read and it has every reason in the world are in the movie (not in the novel) the character played by Robert Downey Jr., died of a cocaine Pason, so this character on a film version should be eliminated. The other project, according to Variety magazine-writing the screenplay about the case known as Golden Suicides: the strange death of two American media artists Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake were a couple. It will direct the Gus Van Sant film. Here the full story.
For me, Hazy shade of winter is one of those songs that I traced directly back to the 80’s and I can hear again and again without ever gets bored.
“Hazy Shade of Winter” – The Bangles
Time, time, time, see what’s become of me
While I looked around
For my possibilities
I was so hard to please
But look around, leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Hear the Salvation Army Band
Down by the riverside, it’s bound to be a better ride
Than what you’ve got planned
Carry your cup in your hand
And look around, leaves are brown now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Hang on to your hopes, my friend
That’s an easy thing to say, but if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend
That you can build them again
Look around, the grass is high
The fields are ripe, it’s the springtime of my life
Ahhh, seasons change with the scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Will not you stop and remember me
But look around, leaves are brown now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Look around, leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground …
